Before Sublyric, we spent nearly ten years as a subtitle translation vendor. Most of that time went into one simple but demanding job: transcribing tutorials and product materials from a leading international visual effects software company and translating them accurately into Chinese.
How many hours, how many videos? Honestly, we lost count. What we remember is the routine — day after day, buried in timelines and subtitle files, with hardly a break.
Over those years we tried almost every subtitle tool out there, free and paid, and none of them felt right. Transcription errors had to be fixed line by line. Timing drifted no matter how often we realigned it. And after translating, we still had to proofread everything by hand.
Karaoke lyrics needed a completely different set of tools. Each time we switched tools, we just ran into the same problems all over again.
Sublyric didn't start as an idea for a product that we then worked backward from. It grew, bit by bit, out of the frustrations we lived with every day — countless moments of "if only this were automated" that finally pushed us to build it ourselves.
Why build your own tools instead of buying existing ones?None of the tools we tried over the years worked the way we needed. One had accurate transcription but painful timing; another made translation easy but meant switching to a separate toolchain for karaoke effects. Instead of stitching together a workflow across several apps, we decided to solve every one of those pain points in a single tool that handles the whole job. That's where Sublyric came from.
Who is Sublyric designed for?Sublyric is built for fansub groups, localization teams, independent translators, and creators producing cover-song MVs and lyric animations — in short, anyone who works regularly with video subtitles.
What's the difference between the Free and Professional editions?If you only subtitle the occasional video, the Free Edition has you covered. If you do this work regularly and in volume, the Professional Edition's AI transcription and translation take a lot of repetitive work off your plate, so you can spend your time on the creative part.
What's next on the roadmap?We'll keep listening to feedback and improving Sublyric based on what we know about the pain points of subtitling and lyric editing. Editing is already fast, but our real goal is to make most editing and cleanup disappear — so a single click gets the job done.
Looking further aheadWe're also exploring AI tools for video creation more broadly. The exact shape is still coming together, but the direction is clear: new tools that make video localization and production much simpler.
